Pennsylvania House of Representatives
Laptop Refresh Project

PCCi performed the image loading, customization, and installation of 220 IBM laptops in the House of Representatives chamber in the Pennsylvania Capitol building. This complex installation required removal of existing power, data, and security cables from the historic furniture on the House floor, then reinstalling new power cables, along with existing data and security cables and providing cable management for those cables. Provided custom image loading from PCCi's facilities in Mechanicsburg, including customization of those PCs for each end user. Installed and tested the laptops for connection to the House of Representative's network.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
Personal Computer Refresh Project

PCCi provided project management and installation services for this IBM contract. PCCi was responsible for order processing and tracking, shipping, logistics, and installation team management of over 5,000 desktop and laptop units for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. This complex project included installation of PCs at very large facilities during off hours, as well as installation at maintenance office locations and open driver's licensing centers. Coordination included managing up to nine installation teams at a single time. During peak project performance over 750 PCs were being installed each week. Accountable for asset management and serial number information to the client and IBM Global Finance for leasing. Provided recycling services and tracked asset disposition for the client.

ImaginePA Project

PCCi provided multiple resources to support the ImaginePA SAP ERP implementation project for the Commonwealth as a subcontractor to both BearingPoint and IBM. PCCi provided Training Logistics Management, ABAP programming, Administrative Project Management, Testing Support, and Application Development.

Facilities Manager Project

PCCi provided technical services resources, including 24x7 Level 1 support personnel and Level 2 technical personnel to the Facilities Manager project.

Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry
Field Services Project

PCCi provides consulting services including evaluating the LAN architectural design requirements for all Labor and Industry offices, Call Centers and CareerLink sites statewide in preparation for new office construction, multiple office consolidation, or whenever offices are renovated. Designed the physical cabling infrastructure required to satisfy the logical LAN design within an office complex or building that houses a single or multiple business unit environment.

Counselor Toolset Application

The Counselor Toolset Application allows OVR staff to view a subset of the Mainframe client information. This client information is downloaded from the Mainframe twice a week. This system shows all cases for the current fiscal year and is accessible on a read only basis. In addition, the system includes valid Disability and Job Codes, Vendors, Fees Schedule, and PA Zip Codes. This application is written in Visual Basic with MS SQL Server backend.

Scope of this project included requirements definition, data modeling, prototyping, conceptual design, detail design, specifications construction, coding, testing (all levels), correcting, debugging, compiling, documentation, input/output functions, interfacing, data base design, design and implementation of mainframe to SQL Server downloads systems conversion and/or migration, application, implementation, change management as it pertains to application changes and version control, initial training, code security, and knowledge transfer/initial maintenance, and project management.

Forms Development

Performed requirements definition for an application that provides visually impaired BBVS users with the ability to fill out forms without the use of an aide. Developed a Visual Basic database front end specifically designed to be easy to use for visually impaired BBVS workers. Created and tested forms within the application, providing printed layout that maps to the standard and approved forms. Performed interface with JAWS application to provide voice reading of form and application content.

OIT Server & Network Cabinet Rollout

As part of the L&I OIT Server and Network Cabinet rollout in January through May of 2001, Pierson Computing Connection Inc. provided the following services:

  • Receipt, configuration, and delivery of 54 network cabinets across the Commonwealth; Configuration included installing multiple APC UPS connecting devices, keyboard trays, monitor shelves, and cable management
  • Inventory tracking and warehousing of 135 servers
  • Hardware installation and BIOS setup for 74 servers
  • Custom software installation on 74 servers including network setup, SMS, and coordinating ADSM backups
  • Install 135 servers at 54 locations across the state including installation of keyboards, mice, displays, and server switches as well as up to three servers per location
  • Troubleshooting performed for successful installation

Office of Income Maintenance

In the four-month window from December 2000 to March 2001, PCCi provided project management services to the Pennsylvania DPW as part of the IBM PC Rollout project with a high level of customer satisfaction.

Project management scope spanned over 120 site installations and 10,000 PCs in an extremely tight schedule including management of the following activities:

  • Image testing and certification
  • Manufacturing of workstations
  • Delivery of equipment just-in-time to locations
  • Data transfer
  • Hard disk drive cleansing
  • De-installation and re-boxing of PCs
  • Installation of new PCs
  • Transfer of user data to new PCs
  • Configuration and customization of user settings
  • Removal and recycling of existing PCs in a just-in-time manner
  • Serial number and asset number tracking and verification

Cabling, Cabinet, and Server Installation

PCCi provided project management expertise to PennDOT for the cabling and network infrastructure upgrades for 144 county offices and driver's license centers throughout the state. Work performed included site surveys, cabinet configuration and installation, installation of 4,000 data cables, testing, and documentation. In addition, PCCi managed the installation of 289 servers at these locations, coordinating the server installation schedule with PennDOT technical teams including attending technical status meetings and providing input regarding server issues. PCCi concurrently managed the cabling, network migration, and server installation project teams, also working in conjunction with the PC installation teams.

Pennsylvania State Police
Network Infrastructure Rollout

From 1998 to 2000, PCCi provided significant services to the Pennsylvania State Police as part of the initial Enterprise Network rollout over an 18-month period.

Project management for over 140 site installations including providing almost 300 Rittal network cabinets with movable and fixed shelves, fans, cable management, and keyed locksets. The cabinets were delivered to the PCCi Mechanicsburg facility, configured with the appropriate parts for the specific locations, and then delivered and installed at the locations. Configurations included full-height, half-height, and wall-mounted cabinets with both left and right door swings. Cabinets were also installed in two- and three-gang units at the locations by our installers. In addition to cabinet procurement and installation, PCCi also performed the following activities:

  • Site surveys
  • Network cabinet configuration and installation
  • Facilities readiness
  • Telecommunications installations
  • Category 5 cabling installation
  • Network equipment configuration and installation
  • PC, server and printer configuration and installations
  • Installation of over 6,500 Category 5 cable runs in over 140 locations including testing, as-built documentation, and AMP 15-year warranty for each location; managed three subcontractors across the Commonwealth to provide efficient and timely installation of cables to the customer's satisfaction
  • Provided Microsoft NT technical personnel responsible for server design, backup software, disaster recovery procedures, SMS 2.0 design and implementation, local and wide area network support, dial in and dial out services
  • Provided administrative and technical administrative support personnel as required by the project
